About Us

Argosy Jewellery was founded in 1999, and has been a family owned and operated business since conception. Argosy has been for most of its life a manufacturer and supplier of precious and semi-precious gem-stone jewellery. At Argosy's peak we exported to Canada, the USA, Australia, the Pacific Islands and New Zealand.

The 2011 Christchurch earthquake destroyed Argosy House, at 87 Victoria Street. The destruction of both the factory and the retail store caused a relocation to a smaller premises.

However, the disruption of trade during the COVID-19 pandemic caused a further downscaling and stopped exports out of the country for the most part. Now Argosy is comfortably situated with the majority of trade focusing on the supply of gemstones to local Trade Jewelers, retail stores, manufacturers and silversmiths.

We source our precious and semi-precious stones from the gem cutters in both Sri Lanka and Thailand, and furthermore source material from local cutters here in New Zealand. However, we still provide repairing, setting and engraving services to all our clients.
